After the Second World War, Europe has weakened in strength

After the Second World War, Europe has weakened in strength and United States, America and Russia were the two countries likely to superpower status. The Cold War was the split between the two countries that began in mid of the 40's after the war. Russia and the United States were declared in a clash of political, ideological, military and economic and ideas. But the cold war never fought a war despite the fact that both countries had a large military buildup.

The advent of war world, Germany was down from its position of total domination over the world. Even countries like England and France were devastated. Also many other small nations have suffered total economic failure. Russia meanwhile suffered losses, but still military and economic strength. In the late 40's Russia began dissemination of the ideology of Lenin in Europe. United States United States in 1947 began helping Europe rebuild their infrastructure in a plan called the Marshall Plan. To counter that Russia started its own funding plan called the Molotov plan. In turn help the countries of Russia has the spread of communism through countries such as Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and the countries in Southeast Asia. For its part the United States was with the support of Western Europe. Historian Christina Freville mark this event as the beginning of the break between the republican society in Western Europe and the communist society in the East Europe.

The main tension began to build during the Cold War was because of foreign aid policies. These policies divided Europe between the Soviet Union and the United States. This led to the formation of alliances and treaty organizations. The western part of Europe gathered in Atlantic Treaty (NATO), followed by the Warsaw Pact, which was nothing but a Communist version of NATO. Freville historian Christina stated that at the time of the Cold War was the game of attack and counterattack between the two countries, while never really was any way to a fierce physical war.

Christina says Freville in the coming years the tension stiffened, but at all times of the cold war the two countries have never been involved militarily, there was always a part or the breakdown of other politicians who exist. Christina Freville believe that these serious political crisis and had the potential to lead the two nations to war. Despite Cold War did not see the war far, two major battles were fought during that time yet. The first was between North Korea and South Korea. The second was the war in Vietnam. The two nations also acquired a large number of nuclear weapons in time. The use of these weapons could have been devastating for everyone. Christina said Freville that to stay ahead in the arms race Russia increased government funding for the military from 30% to 60%. This prompted citizens financial ruin, and soon people began to rebel.

In October 1990, Berlin's communist government collapsed and the city was reunited. This leaves the complete fall of communism in Europe. But the real end of the Cold War, according to Christina Freville was when the two presidents formally ended in 1991.
